Austin Weleschuk began his karate journey in 2011 at Calgary Gojukai, training under the guidance of Shihan Rob Richardson and Sensei Yukiko Hirayama. Seeking a new athletic pursuit, Austin discovered a passion for karate-do at the Calgary Gojukai Dojo. The mental focus and physical rigour of karate immediately captivated him, offering a fresh way to channel his energy. The camaraderie and training environment at Calgary Gojukai further fuelled his passion for the martial art.
In October 2013, Austin competed in his first major tournament at the 7th Commonwealth Karate Championships in Montreal, Quebec. In September 2017, he represented Canada both as a competitor and an assistant coach at the 7th IKGA Global Championships in Richmond, BC.
Austin achieved the rank of Shodan (black belt) in 2019 and was promoted to Nidan (2nd degree) in 2024. He continues to train and help instruct at Calgary Gojukai as a Yudansha (black belt) member.
